Reimagining the LMS

In a full-day workshop hosted by myself and the OES team for our partner, Federation University Online, we aimed to uncover how Early Childhood Education (ECE) students engage with our Moodle platform and how we can enhance their experience as learning designers. Eight students participated, both in person and online, alongside key members from OES departments, including UX, Graphic Design, Multimedia, Data, Innovation and Student Experience. This collaborative effort yielded invaluable insights, revealing that students preferred starting their journey on the assessment page, seeking fewer clicks to access due dates. They expressed a desire for hyperlinked reading lists to better prepare for assessments and a more streamlined, targeted starting module that clearly outlined the specific software required for their studies. These findings are instrumental in shaping our approach to designing more user-friendly and effective learning experiences. The initial rollout of these updates has been met with tremendous praise and positivity both from our delivery team and our students. We have notably seen a 100% engagement with our reimagined 'Module 0', now titled 'Unlock your learning'.
